Building a community can be a long and involved process, one that can even take years. A writer and community builder going simply by the screen name Danielle takes that idea of community and turns it on its head. Her focus is on the idea of “time-bound pop-up communities”. Her way of building these communities it to do it event-first. Instead of adding an events strategy to a community after acquiring hundreds or thousands of members into a forum-based platform, Danielle’s idea is to introduce channels of communication after bonds have formed between members during events. The events in question, she says, ought to be a gathering where people can get to know one another and forge avenues of collaboration and mutual support (as opposed to educational lectures or presentations).
